Top 17 Songs Every Recruiter Can Relate to

Top 17 Songs Every Recruiter Can Relate to Weve all been there, on the roller-coaster of emotions that is recruitment. From the Monday morning hell which requires nothing short of a double espresso, through to the  vainglory which kicks in during deal swag season. Here are some of my top song picks to get you through the good and bad weeks / months / years of recruiting: 1. Your first day as a recruitment consultant Song choice: Travie McCoy Billionaire Its your first day as a recruitment consultant. Your  new manager sits you down for an introduction and the commission structure is broken down in more detail, meanwhile youre sat there just thinking I wanna be a Billionaire so bad! 2. Monday blues Song Choice: Daniel Powter  Bad Day Youve finally left the office after a  miserable Monday, having endured the beginning of the month meeting where you were grilled by your seniors about last months performance. Its now time to reflect and move on / have a large bottled size glass of red wine. 3. That HR manager blocks  your deal Song choice: Puddle Of Mudd She Hates Me Yes, you may have gone directly to the hiring manager behind HRs back but what else could you do when they decided to ignore your emails and calls, despite the fact that you had the perfect candidate for them? You managed to get the manager bought in and then you get a call from the HR manager telling you that all future communications are blocked and interviews have been cancelled! 4. That warm / smug feeling of being in high demand Song Choice: Right Said Fred Im Too Sexy When that same client (which you desperately wanted to work with) who turned you down after telling you that they decided to work with a range of cheaper agencies and assured you they didnt need your services, comes running back. 5. Sifting through rubbish applications Song choice: TLC No Scrubs One of the  banes of  being a recruiter, when youre getting a pile load of irrelevant applications (often duplicate) and the applicants are also keen to check in twice a day on their application process and resell themselves in for the position! 6. Job insomnia Song choice: Cypress Hill Insane In The Brain When you spend your thirsty Thursday staying late  in the empty office alone (ignoring the continuous snapchats from others in the office who off out at your favourite bar) but its ok because youre going to send over some top quality candidates to a new hot job It gets to the following Tuesday and your clients disappeared off the end of the earth! 7. Realising that amazing candidate isnt so irreplaceable Song choice: Beyonce Irreplaceable When you find a candidate that you think will get the job but they turn out to be a DIVA,  maybe they blank you continuously for 48 hours and youre feeling hopeless then you find someone with a better skill set whos keen on your role. 8. When that candidate comes crawling back Song choice: Kelis Trick Me That same candidate that dogged you once comes crawling back. They might have a good set of experience on there CV but theyre a major  Houdini when it comes to  commitment. Now that youre older and wiser to their trickery, you know exactly what theyre like and unfortunately that role is no longer available. 9. Budgets have been reset and youve got a pile of new jobs to work Song choice: Missy Elliott Work It Wow, this is a change for the books youve gone from frantically trying to find the scraps of unworkable jobs to having 10  land on your desk at once. Feeling funky with a  fresh lease of life now, youve just got to decide if each one is worth it and whether to work it or not! 10. Continuously being knocked down Song choice: Chumbawamba Tubthumping When you work 5-10 hours overtime daily just to get badly beaten by another agency continually for two weeks. Note to self: keep self belief that theres light at the end of the deal tunnel, and move on! 11. When someone asks you about your diet since having started our recruitment career Song choice: Fast Food Rockers Fast Food Song Before starting in the recruitment industry youd like to think of yourself as fairly healthy, but recently those late nights in the office trawling through jobs boards followed by a stint of continuous alcohol consumption has resulted in a rapid decline in the consumption of healthier alternatives, whilst Deliveroo and Dominos seem to have become an excellent option! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pgPq4FGWfk 12. Dont go chasing waterfalls Song choice: TLC Waterfalls When youve got no core roles on but things keep cropping up outside of your remit, not exactly the kind of area you cover and your managers stood over your desk telling you not to stray from what you know (maybe youll ping some people over outside of core hours). 13. KPI Chains Song choice: Mary Mary Shackles When everyone leaves the office for team drinks but youre 20% off hitting your months KPIs and todays the last day of the month you realise that youll be begrudgingly catching up on these for at least the next couple of hours. 14. When office haters start hating on your high commission lifestyle Song choice: The Notorious B.I.G Mo Money Mo Problems Last month you did pretty well and youre feeling pretty fly in your new outfits this week, whilst you can admit that your new Versace sunglasses indoors may be a little excessive you cant help but feel like haters gonna hate. 15. When you fill  the unplaceable job Song choice: Montell Jordan-  This is how we do it Everyone told you that you wouldnt be able to do it but you got that recruiters twinge to go outside of what people told you to do and guess what? Candidate start date is confirmed, notice handed in do a little dance. 16. When they call out top biller for the month and its you Song choice: Destinys Child Say My Name Yeah thats right-  its recap of last months activity and your director refers to the statistics before announcing the top biller of the month. You look around, hmm wonder who it could be (secretly know its you) and get ready to walk to the front in diva manner/act surprised. 17. All work work work Song choice: Rihanna Work We all have those friends who always seem to be free to do something, yet you cant help but feel like all you do is work, work, work. Bailing on social plans only to spend the night alone in the office submitting CVs is only possible if you repeat staff incentive trip over and over and over again Every role has its ups and down and its no secret that recruitment can be testing hopefully this will help to get you through the ups and downs  and get you out the other side of the week! J1 Visa for the USA for work experience overseas University of Manchester Careers Blog

J1 Visa for the USA for work experience overseas University of Manchester Careers Blog Are you looking for work experience during the Summer or after you graduate. Are you an international student struggling to get sponsorship for employment in the UK under Tier 2 or Tier 5 visas? Are you looking ultimately to get some experience as an international student and bring this home with you? Or are you a UK/EU student looking to expand their experience on their CV and go overseas for a while? If you answered yes to any of these questions then a J1 visa could be the answer for you. What is the J1 visa? Well it is the Exchange Visitor (J) non-immigrant visa category for the USA and is for individuals approved to participate in work-and study-based exchange visitor programs. Graduates from the UK whether you are a British National, EU citizen or International student you are eligible to apply for Internship programmes in the USA for up to 12 months. These internships enable university students or recent graduates to go to the USA to gain exposure to culture and to receive hands-on experience in USA business practices in your chosen occupational field. It enables graduates and students to get some great brand names on their CVs and experience abroad range of business opportunities. Equally all students no matter where you are from can apply within the UK to get their J1 visa and there is no limit to how many J1 visas you can have as long as you meet their criteria. Unlike the UK the employer is not your sponsor for a J1 visa it is an agency and a full list can be found here https://j1 visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/sponsor-search/?program=Intern So what now? Well the first step to getting experience in the USA and a J1 visa is to find opportunities. Finding Experience You can do this by using the websites Vault, Glassdoor.com (ensure Glassdoor is .com not .co.uk) and LinkedIn. In the USA you will be looking for opportunities titled internships whether it is graduate experience or summer experience. In the USA the terms graduate scheme or graduate programme does not exist and in fact the term scheme means something illegal in the States. You can search the 3 websites mentioned above with your field of interest for example if you are looking at engineering then you would search engineering internships On the various websites there are filtering options which include location, salary etc. When using LinkedIn ensure in your Summary section you have the phrase J1 Visa Candidate at the start so employers who view your profile know that they are not responsible for your visa. If you use LinkedIn you can apply with your profile instead of a CV and cover letter so ensure your profile is up to date with a professional photo. Similarly if you applying using a cover letter and CV ensure J1 Visa Candidate is visible on both documents. A CV in the USA is 1 page only so make what you put on there count. Use Glassdoor to help find work but also to research what an intern can earn as it contains company, interview and salary reviews. If you are applying via the company directly and are filling in an online application form then make sure when they ask Are you authorised to work in the United States? you answer yes as you will have a J1 visa. When the question comes up about sponsorship on the application form will you now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status? you answer no as you have an independent sponsor and you will not require the company to sponsor you. We recommend using the cover letter from Parenthese a J1 Visa Sponsor who visits the University of Manchester twice an academic year to talk to students about J1 visas. On their website under the Student tab you will find links to really helpful information including how to get started and most important the Pick Me section which details application advice. You can click on the following link to access their recommended cover letter format which informs the employer in the USA of the advantages of hiring an overseas intern as well as the financial benefits http://www.parenthese-london.co.uk/students/internship/pick-me/let-us-be-your-network/ use the cover letter template keeping the sections in bold only changing the sections not in bold. There is lots of great advice and information on this website. Paid or Unpaid Internships? We recommend only looking at paid internships rather than unpaid. Do your research regarding the company using Glassdoor.com and LinkedIn. Make sure you know what the basic living costs are for the area of the USA you want to work in and that the job you are applying for will cover those expenses. For instance San Francisco you would require a job that paid $3500 per month and new York $2500 for basic living costs: food, rent, internet, travel etc. These salaries are not unreasonable for these areas. Avoid companies that want you to pay a fee up front to work for them to cover the cost of materials etc as these are usually not legitimate. If it sounds too good to be true the rule is it usually is too good to be true. If in doubt however contact the Careers Service at the University or your chosen J1 Visa Sponsor and they can let you know if it is a reputable organisation. Getting a J1 Visa To get a J1 visa you will need to have successfully been given a job offer. Once you have your job offer and you have ensured the salary is good enough to sustain you in the USA then you can approach your sponsor. As previously mentioned we have worked with Parenthese in the past and you can access slides from one of their sessions on our website for more details: http://www.careers.manchester.ac.uk/media/services/careersandemployabilitydivision/careersservice/talkshandouts/J1-visa-Dec-2018.pdf What do you need to look for when picking a sponsor? Ensure you research your sponsor and you understand what is included with the offer of a visa. Make sure the medical cover is high enough although $1million may sound like a lot health cover for a broken finger can be very expensive. Does the sponsor do checks on your potential employer to ensure your safety at work and that you will receive proper training and supervision! Do they offer support while you are in the USA in case you need help or get into trouble? I have my job offer and a sponsor what next? Well after you have been approved by the sponsor and the company you are working for is checked and confirmed you can then apply for the visa which includes a trip to the US Embassy for your fingerprints, fee and short interview. This is standard and very straight forward as long as you do not have a criminal record. Your sponsor should give you all the information you need to know regarding fees for your sponsor as well as your SERVIS fee and what steps need to be taken. It can take as little as 3 weeks to turn around an application for a J1 Visa. Good luck and remember to make the most of your experience. Trust and Commitment in Relationships

Trust and Commitment in Relationships         Relationships need many things to succeed. Communication, for instance, is crucial: If you and your partner cant talk to each other about important things, then even the unimportant things will cause disagreements and cause unhappiness. Sex is important, too, and so are shared interests. But what were here to talk about is another dimension of a relationship, and its the one that, for many of us, defines the term relationship itself. Were talking about commitment and the trust that it requires. While ethical non-monogamy presents an alternative to the traditional view, plenty of us prefer monogamous relationships. When we enter a committed relationship, we choose to be exclusive with and faithful to our partner â€" and we expect the same from them. But learning to trust other people isnt easy, especially if youve been betrayed in the past. And if your partner destroys your trust, moving forward can be difficult â€" if not impossible. Building trust When you start dating a new person, you know enough to be excited â€" but you may not know as much as you should, and you may have some prior knowledge that makes you a little frightened. Especially if youve been hurt by a past betrayal, putting faith in a partner can be tough. But it’s also something that you’re capable of. One of the keys is communication. Tell your partner about any struggles you may have with trust. Share your feelings and invite your partner to share theirs. What they say might put you at ease and help you build stronger trust in them. Be sure to live the trust that you want to define your relationship. That means following through on commitments, telling the truth, and generally behaving in a way that’s worthy of the trust your relationship needs. You can also address personal issues with trust. Sometimes, our suspicions arent grounded in reality. When thats the case, we need to take a step back and work on ourselves. Going to a therapist can be an excellent way to address any trust and commitment issues you may have. The ultimate betrayal in relationships Trust is not a guarantee â€" thats what makes it so hard. And while many people are wonderful partners, some people let their partners down. Trust is an act of faith, but its not an act of blind faith. You should be aware of the signs of a struggling relationship and of the signs of a cheating partner (there is quite a bit of overlap, unfortunately). Look out for lack of intimacy, changes in attitude and behavior, and the shutting down of communication. Even in the best of cases, those are at least signs of a struggling relationship. In the worst of cases, theyre the signs of a cheater. If you catch your partner in lies or notice suspicious things, be even more wary. So what should you do if you suspect something terrible, but arent sure? You should talk to your partner (communication is key, remember), but be ready for denial â€" and perhaps even a highly emotional reaction. If youre not satisfied, consider getting to the bottom of things. It isn’t easy to bust a cheater, and it’s an unpleasant business, too. But some reliable professionals specialize in doing it discreetly. Pros tracking your partner with cellphone data or tailing your partner in person could tell you the truth. If its an ugly truth, remember that youre never obligated to stay with a cheating partner. If its a happier one, remember that you still have work to do. Your suspicions came from somewhere, and your relationship may be in trouble. However you move forward, remember that trust is vital to   healthy relationships. You deserve to have your trust rewarded.

Personal Day 5 Things Happening Now In COTJs Life

Personal Day 5 Things Happening Now In COTJs Life 2 Flares 2 Flares Breaks are good.  Good are breaks.  Break me off a piece of that earthquake bar. I obviously need a personal day. Even in our most desperate times, we must find a way to take a step back, relax, and put our focus on something else.  They say searching for a job is a 40 hour per week process, but I do believe that will make you go bonkers.  Just like Im doing today, take a personal day and go out and do something fun, spend time with family, ride a bike, ride a tricycle, ride horse, or ride in your car to someplace awesome. To get us away from the job search, here are 5 things that Ive got going on right now: Holy Earthquake! While some may have been scared, and thats completely warranted, I was somewhat giddy after the quake hit the east coast yesterday.  I can now say that Ive experienced an earthquake.  What we felt here in Philly from the 5.9 magnitude quake was not as shaky as what people experienced at the epicenter in Virginia.  Thankfully, there havent been many (zero-ish) injuries reported and now we just need to brace ourselves and hope John Cusack doesnt show up at our door. Allergies Never experienced allergies like Im having now.  An allergy test confirmed that my body hates grass, dust mites, cats, certain trees, and other environmental items.  If you plan on calling anytime soon, I apologize in advance. Bad Rhino Social Media If you didnt know, Im one of the Co-Founders of Bad Rhino, a Social media Marketing Firm.  Its been a blast to work with clients on their social media marketing.  You can follow us at @BadRhinoInc or read the blog here. 20 Pound Drop Im challenging myself to lose 20 pounds by December 31st.  The hardest time of the year to shed weight is the October through December, wintery, holiday, eating cookies and cake time of year.  Ive easily put on 10 pounds through these two months in previous years, so it should be rather interesting to try to swing a 20 pound drop. COTJ on CBS Money Watch Alright, to get us back in the swing of things, heres a quick post that I was featured on in CBS Money Watch.  Its a great article that shares tips on acing a skype interview.

Grant Writing on Resume - Using a Grant Writing Template

Grant Writing on Resume - Using a Grant Writing TemplateWhen you are applying for grants and scholarships online, the important thing to remember is to write your grant writing on resume as if it were a resume. Most likely you will be submitting an application through the internet, in which case you can download a grant writing template on the web. You might be wondering how to use this type of template to improve your odds of receiving funding.First, you should think about how long it will take to receive a free grant. It will probably take several months to receive the money from these types of grants. You might also ask if there are requirements for submitting the grant application and if there are any types of documents that will be required. The very important thing is to make sure that you fill out every page of the grant writing on resume.Next, look at your financial situation. How much money do you have available? Do you already have enough money to apply for the grant? If yo u need some extra money, make sure you know where to find the extra money before you submit your grant application. After you have filled out the application, now you should review the grant writing on resume. This is your chance to bring to light any skills or talents that might be needed for the grant you are applying for. It might be a great idea to prepare a sales letter to accompany your grant writing on resume so that you can present yourself in the best possible light. That way, if you have a gift for selling or writing, you will be able to earn some money while working on your skills. If you have a great deal of experience in the area of business but don't know how to sell, then you might want to consider a work for hire writing service. They can help you to better network your skills and abilities and then get jobs that can pay you well. Because this is such a competitive field, there are many people who would love to hire you. Also, when you are reviewing your grant writing o n resume you should check out the company that is doing the writing for you. If they are not reputable then you will be promoting the company as well as your own skills and abilities. Not only will that take away from your reputation, but it could also lower your chances of receiving funding. Asking friends and family for their input on a company will be helpful, but asking a friend that has a job writing grant applications will also be useful. The next step is to review your financial situation. The grant writing on resume might include information such as the amount of money you have, or what you will need to make the money you need. Review this information to make sure that you do not exceed the limits of the grant that you are being awarded. In conclusion, review the grant writing on resume and the basic details on your financial statement. Be sure to look at the language that you have used in your proposal, as well as the qualifications that you submitted to receive the funding. Make sure that you have written your grant application using a grant writing template that was written for an expert writer.
